DESG aims to connect researchers, to encourage and support therapeutic education about diabetes and the rapid diffusion of acquired scientific knowledge in the field.

WHO WE ARE

The Diabetes Education Study Group (DESG) is a section of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). Its aim is to help the medical profession to realize the importance of patient education as a therapeutic measure and to analyze the needs and difficulties experienced by medical teams when they have to teach diabetics.

WHAT WE DO

The help of specialists in education and psychology is fundamental for understanding the effects of our actions and words on patients in educational programs. Such understanding will help in more effective future planning of training programs for patients and medical teams. This might help not only diabetic therapy but also the therapy of other chronic diseases, such as obesity, arterial hypertension, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases, etc.

WE AIM

To increase effectiveness and efficiency in the treatment of diabetes.
To improve the quality of control in the non-acute phase of diabetes in which patient education and a meaningful doctor/patient relationship oriented to patient needs are crucial.
To foster diabetic research in the fields of diabetic treatment and patient education, and to develop means of evaluating patient education
